At first Fierz wanted to apply for an apprenticeship. The coincidence – Seklehrer Albert Meier (2nd from right) – wanted that he tried examining to the Gymi. The time at the "OR", today Math Naturwiss. Gymnasium, was a very happy one.
Well, nothing could avoid the pressure to choose a career. He was sensible about deciding – doing it by a disqualification procedure: languages (what do you do with them?), psychology (would clearly be interesting) and certainly nothing that has anything to do with design or creation (because there is no future in that). Finally, 5 years of monoculture at the ETH followed.
It is of course exciting, to spend your first money out of a real profession. Residing in Rapperswil, he began to develop away from drawing. He bought both compressor and airbrush (spray), with which he deepend his access to color(s).
Parallel to this, he took classes in oil painting at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Zurich. Oil painting was the real thing. After 2 years air brushing this technique was over for him. It is very much technical and allows no personal stoke. « – »
